Bruch
Violin Concerto 1 in G minor, op.26 |
Bruch was so dissatisfied by this most memorable of great Romantic
violin concertos that he withdrew his original version of this work in
1857. However, after significant revision he re-issued the
concerto with its familiar melodic strains and intricate violin work and
it has gradually become amongst the most recognisable of Romantic
themes.

Recorded
by the precociously talented Vengerov aged just 19 this performance
demonstrated the energy and power of a youthful interpretation, but with
a lyrical musicality which makes it a truly remarkable recording.
Runner-up in the Gramophone Awards Concerto category in 1994 (to Kyung-Wha
Chung's rendition of Bartok's Violin Concerto 2.) |
