Pachelbel
Canon in D major

Pachelbel was a significant inspiration to the Bach family, but his work went almost unnoticed for centuries, until his Canon, composed in about 1680 started gaining popularity in the 1970s following the release of a performance by the Paillard Chamber Orchestra.  In the following years this work has become the most instantaneously recognised work of the Baroque period, further popularised through its inclusion in films such as Robert Redford's Ordinary People in 1980 and now a very regular, almost indispensable feature of many, many weddings.
