The Lark Ascending |

English folk themes and a poem by George Meredith formed the inspiration
for Vaughan Williams' evocation of the lark's song and of the English
countryside. The result was one of the most memorable works for
the violin, supported by, but soaring over the restrained orchestration
to deliver a delicate, haunting revelation.

Although long-time sceptics of Nigel Kennedy's talent, his return to the
classical repertoire with this 1997 recording of The Lark Ascending
converted us. A breathtaking rendition of this supremely evocative
work - on this disc combined with an excellent account of Elgar's Violin
Concerto too.
