Copland
Fanfare for the Common Man

Copland wrote the Fanfare for Eugene Goosens and the Cincinnati Symphony in the midst of the Second World War and since its premiere in 1942 its combination of popular style with a classic treatment has made this a grand, almost triumphal concert opener.

Recorded in Detroit in May 1981, Antal Dorati coaxed a strong and appropriately 'American' interpretation of the Fanfare from the Detroit Symphony on this disc which includes a great survey of Copland's most popular works.
