Mozart
Piano Concerto in C major, K467 'Elvira Madigan'
Produced in less than one month in 1785, Mozart's 21st Piano Concerto
was notoriously demanding for other soloists to perform to th
ecomposer's own performance standard, but it remains the ne plus
ultra of the Mozartian piano repertoire. The andante second
movement became known as the 'Elvira Madigan' because of its prominent
part in the Swedish film of the same name by Bo Widerberg released in
1967.
Pires is an undisputed Mozartian leader and her inspirational
partnership with Abbado provides an effortless, elegant mastery which
displays this work at its most sublime.
