Saint-Saens
Symphony 3 in C minor, op. 78 'Organ'

The Organ Symphony sometimes suffers from over-familiarity (it's hard to get 'Babe' out of your mind) but the simple, driving themes represent the most memorable and energising of organ works.

Dutoit produced an astonishingly energetic performance from the Montreal Symphony which avoided the ponderousness which some renditions mistake for significance.  In so doing, he tied this to Peter Hurford's incredibly light touch on the organ, to produce the definitive rendition of this extraordinarily powerful work.
